WordCamp Miami 2016 was just last month, and what a terrific conference it was! This particular WordCamp was very fulfilling for me. I was able to bring my oldest daughter—who is 6, to attend the Kid’s Camp on Saturday. I volunteered at a WordCamp Kid’s Camp in Orlando last year and thought that she would really enjoy it. When I heard they were having another Kid’s Camp in Miami, I immediately signed her up. My kids don’t usually travel with me for work, so this was a great experience.
Kid’s Camp: WordPress for the Generation
It was exciting to see an entire new generation of content creators in the WordCamp Kid’s Camp room. So often, we get caught up in building our businesses and technical skills, and we forget where we started. It was very grounding to see these kids getting started, and I felt a personal draw to help create a more formalized space for Kid’s Camps. In the future, Valet will definitely be more involved in making Kid’s Camp a reality at other WordCamps across the US.
WordCamp Business Panel Speaking
This was also my first WordCamp speaking on a business panel. Speaking at a WordCamp is quite an honor—it’s essentially offering advice to others, guiding them down a path you’ve already tread. For me, it felt like a validation of all the hard work that we’ve been doing at Valet. I was excited to sit next to some very well-known names in our community and represent our agency. This felt incredible!

These terrific events would not be possible without the help of all the amazing volunteers and generous WordCamp sponsors. Thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, and spoke—and was able to be part of this event in any way. Our team at Valet really enjoys being part of this amazing community, and we’re happy to contribute to growing it all the time. Hope to see you at the next one!
